Pay only for the space your freight uses

Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) shipping is for freight that doesn't fill a trailer. Your shipment shares space with others and you split the cost. As an asset-based carrier, Rolls Right runs everything from courier vans to 10-ton trucks, so we carry anything from envelopes and loose cartons to several pallets.

Our 5-ton and low-profile straight trucks reach docks at malls, warehouses and urban retail centres where space and clearance are tight. Every shipment is GPS-tracked, and dispatch is available 24/7.

LTL coverage across BC and Alberta

LTL rides the same two hubs. Freight consolidates at the Vancouver dock on East Broadway or on the Calgary floor, then moves on the lane between them, six days a week on our own trucks, in one to two days.

From Vancouver a skid reaches the Lower Mainland and the Fraser Valley, the Okanagan through our Kelowna terminal, and Vancouver Island through Nanaimo and Victoria. From Calgary it reaches Alberta and the eastbound Prairie lanes. Vancouver to Calgary, or Calgary to the Island, stays with us the whole way.

Partial loads move on the same schedule as the full ones. That is what makes an LTL transit time worth quoting.

How an LTL price is worked out

An LTL price comes down to how much of the trailer your freight takes up and how far it goes. That is why our quote form asks for the weight, the number of pallets or pieces, and the pickup and delivery cities. Send those and dispatch prices the lane.

The fuel surcharge is added on top. It is set for the calendar month, and this month’s rate and every rate since January 2024 are on our fuel surcharge page.

Freight that is palletized, wrapped and labelled moves through a shared trailer with less handling. Once a shipment fills most of a trailer, booking it as a full truckload often costs less, and dispatch will tell you which way prices better.

Less-than-truckload questions

What is LTL (less-than-truckload) shipping?

LTL moves freight that does not fill a whole trailer. Your shipment shares the trailer with others, so you pay for the part you use. It works for loads from one pallet up to about twelve.

How is LTL different from full truckload?

With full truckload you book the whole trailer for one shipment. With LTL several shipments share it, which costs less for smaller freight but adds handling and stops.

Can you deliver to malls and restricted docks?

Yes. Our low-profile and 5-ton trucks handle tight docks, malls and urban sites with height or clearance limits.

How do I get an LTL quote?

Request a quote online or call 24/7 dispatch at (604) 298-0080 with your freight details, pickup and delivery points, and timing.

How much does LTL shipping cost?

It depends on the weight, the number of pallets or pieces and the lane, plus the monthly fuel surcharge. Send those through the quote form or call 24/7 dispatch at (604) 298-0080 for a price.

How long does LTL take from Vancouver to Calgary?

One to two days. Our own trucks run the lane between Vancouver and Calgary six days a week.

Do you ship LTL to Vancouver Island and the Okanagan?

Yes. From Vancouver, LTL reaches Vancouver Island through our Nanaimo and Victoria terminals and the Okanagan through our Kelowna terminal.

How big can an LTL shipment be?

Up to about twelve pallets. Past that, a full truckload usually costs less and moves with less handling.

Does Rolls Right carry insurance?

Yes. Rolls Right carries liability and cargo insurance, and we can send certificates whenever you need them.
