The local leg in British Columbia and Alberta
A forwarder moving freight into BC or Alberta needs trucks on the ground, a dock to sort on, and a dispatcher who picks up the phone. Rolls Right has run trucks out of Vancouver since 1976 and works out of terminals in Vancouver and Calgary.
The world's largest freight forwarder uses us as its Western Canada retail partner.
Our own trucks run short haul in BC and Alberta. Lanes beyond that go to partner carriers we have used for years, and either way you deal with one company.
Freight comes into the dock, gets sorted, and goes back out on our trucks.
Why forwarders keep the lane with us
Our own trucks and drivers
165+ power units and 500+ trailers. The truck at your customer's dock carries our name and the driver is on our payroll.
Interline billing
Freight billed carrier to carrier is zero-rated for GST, so there is no tax for you to recover on the local leg.
One carrier on the lane
Your freight runs on our equipment. If a lane needs a partner carrier, you approve it in writing before it moves.
How a lane starts
- 1
Send the lane
Origin, destination, pieces, weight, and the appointment if there is one.
- 2
A dispatcher prices it
The person quoting the lane is the person who runs it, so the number holds when the freight moves.
- 3
We run it
Pickup, a dock sort if it needs one, then delivery on our trucks.
- 4
You get the paperwork
Proof of delivery back to you, invoiced carrier to carrier.
Questions forwarders ask
Do you run long haul?
Yes. Rolls Right is an asset-based carrier: our own trucks run British Columbia and Alberta, and we run lanes across the rest of Canada. You deal with Rolls Right for the whole move.
Can you pull containers from the Port of Vancouver?
Yes. Drayage, de-stuffing and delivery are a standing service, and a container can be sorted at our dock on the way through.
Do you handle appointment freight at retail distribution centres?
Yes. Scheduled retail delivery is a large part of what the dock does, including appointment windows at the major distribution centres in the Lower Mainland and Calgary.
Can you take refrigerated and frozen?
Both. We run our own reefer trucks for chilled and frozen freight.
How do you bill?
Carrier to carrier. Interline freight is zero-rated for GST, so the local leg comes to you without tax to recover.
What does a quote need?
Origin and destination, piece count, weight, and whether it is appointment freight. If you have a rate to beat, say so.
Send us a lane
Give us the origin, the destination and what is on the pallet. A dispatcher who runs that lane will price it. Dispatch is on (604) 298-0080.
